"Flipside" is a minimalistic rock song running at 5 minutes and 10 seconds. Ī snippet of an alternate vocal take surfaced on November 10, 2021. Originally, it was recorded as a rough demo at NightBird Recording Studios in Los Angeles. The song is one of three from the album to be written by Del Rey and her guitarist Blake Stranathan, and was presumably recorded and produced in the same session as " Cruel World" and " Pretty When You Cry".Īccording to a reliable insider, the song wasn't in heavy consideration for Ultraviolence until it was later chosen and released as a bonus track. To say "catch someone on the flipside" means to see them later. The term "flipside" has various meanings, most commonly it's the B-side on a single which a listener would have to "flip" the record over to listen to. It was later confirmed that "Flipside" would also appear on special Target editions of Ultraviolence. The title was first revealed on Fnac's online store, which listed "Flipside" as a bonus track.
